High pitch audible tone (noises problem)

I have a 2001 ML320 sport model and recently started to experience a high pitch audible tone (noises) around the steering wheel area. This noises tone come on sometimes when I put the key in the ignition and turn to the #2 position when all instrument cluster indicator lamps come on. Or when I just started to drive. The noises tone stays on consistently while driving with sometime a small 3-5 second breaks of silences. And the noises tone stays on when the vehicle is turned off, key pulled out of the ignition and after the outside temp, odometer and clock indicators turn-off automatically. The noises tone is still there until a few seconds later, then turns itself off. With the engine hood open I notice it more audible at the same location where the steering wheel is on. Need help determining problem.....

I have a same problem before on my ML. And the SA told me it was the ebox fan. U should have ur dealership to fix that if that really bothers u, as far as I know it is not a big issue but an annoying one.
Hope it helps.
