Question What's a reasonable offer for a 2002 ML500

We are thinking to get 2002 ML500 with these options, bi-xenon headlamps, convenience package, sunroof package, sport package, 3rd row seat, premium sound system.
According to some online car pricing information, the dealer cost for this car is
$50355 - $1624.35 (3% factory holdback)=$48730.65

What is a good number to offer the dealer before the destination charge, sales tax and other associcated fees ? Thanks.

price

I got 30 bucks below dealer invoice on a 500. Yes, below invoice, not sticker. I ordered from dealer in DC and my production date is early January, so should be pretty current pricing....good luck!!

jwb - you got really $250 above invoice -dealer kept holdback right?

jwb - you got $30 below invoice (dealer kept his 3%) but then didn't he also charged $275 for other fees right?
You still got best deal I heard of.
I got $600 over.
Most people getting $1-2k off MSRP.

correct

the dealer of course gets his holdback. I have not hid that they charge a "processing fee". He charges about 75 bucks over the "std rate" for Virginia though. In VA, the dealer puts your "real tags" on the vehicle when you pick it up. No temps or going to DMV, and they file everything and train their people etc. So basically I had to pay that anywhere i went, for any model/mfg. Thats why i dont really "count it", kinda like sales tax, cant avoid it or lower it! The average is 199, and he was 275. Yes, i even asked him to come down to 199, and he wouldnt. Oh well.

Yes, i have seen noone else get this low, and i was pretty shocked since it was their first offer. I asked for it in writing and they faxed it right over. Needless to say I jumped on it before it went away. Otherwise i probably wouldve waited. I just wasnt gonna spend over 50K, and I wanted the 500 only. I test drove it with 4 men and 4 bags of clubs, it needed a little more power in my opinion. Not off the start, was plenty "peppy", but the passing power and throttle response once moving, loaded, was a little low (in my opinion)

Thumbs up

Jwb and Guy, appreciate for you information. This looks really good. I am going to offer the dealer 3% of profit (from their cost) to begin with and work my way up to 4%. Hopefully my sales person will accept the offer.
