ML Fog Lights

I am having an extremely difficult time trying to find a member with what I would consider factory fog lights on a ML similar to mine.

Attached are a couple of pictures with similar front ends to mine. Mine is a 2001 ML 320 and while it had the chrome brush guard and Hella lights, I removed it and now want OE style fog lights in the lower bumper.

Does anybody make a fog lights for this area in the lower bumper? Or is my only choice to go aftermarket?

hey,

i think you might have to go aftermarket unless you want to upgrade to a newer model fog light from a 02-05 OE style,

I do like that bumper, but even that style has what appears to be OE style spaces for lower fog lights. While I am sure that new bumper would cost way more than I'd pay, I still think there must be something OE out there or no? Maybe those spaces are for fog lights or an air dam for the brakes etc?

From: Edmonds... good bye SD
i remember correctly, those are the ducts to keep the brakes cool. I believe that the only fog lights that were offered were the hella on the front bar.

I went with the Hella FF100's. They fit nice. I had an aftermarket Truck shop install them for me. I posted a pic in the picture thread:

Thumbs up ML Fog Lights

We have a 2001 ML320 early production (Nov. 2000) and there is are fog lights built into the existing headlights. All we had to do was purchase two 55 watt helegon bulbs and pulg them in (all the wiring and sockets were there), the existing rocker switch on the dash activates these lights. When you push the rocker switch at the botton it activactes the rear fog light which was already operational. Now when you push the upper portion of this rocker switch with the low beams headlights on the fog lights in the inner corners of the headlights illumiate. They are great for watching for wildlife near the outer edges of the road in dark lonely locations. I would love to know how to get them to activate without the lowbeam headlights on though? Also, for buck$ the dealer can pulse the computer so that the fog light indicator light on the dash will come on with these lights -- I have not had this done yet, but hope it is not too costly. Dose this help?

Question ML Fog Lights

Almost forgot; I have a couple of questons. Why did you take off the bull bar; and more importantly, do you want to sell it?

I will look into the inner headlight fog light item as you indicated. If that works, that would be cool!

My green light on my dash does light up since I did have the Hella fog lights previously.

I removed the grille guard and nerf bars for personal aesthetic reasons. I did sell them on another board already and that person should be receiving them tomorrow.

I found out about this forum after those items had actually sold.

Thanks for the tip about the headlight area with possible fogs.

Did the inner headlight foglight trick last night and it works light a charm.

Now my foglight switch and green light on the dash have a purpose. I am happy now. Thanks much for the suggestion.

I just put a 35W bulb in there, don't know what the max wattage is, but don't want to burn the housing or anything.

ML fog lights

I have a 2000 ML320 and have been trying for awhile to figure out where the wiring up front was for the fog light switch on the console, now I know! Thanks for the heads up!
I went to my local auto parts store and look up what bulbs to put in there (didn't expect to find a listing) but there it was "Sylvania H3 ST" 55 watts.
I put them in and push the button and nothing happens, guess I have to go to the dealer and have him tweek the computer?
Question? The switch in the console has a button for rear fog lights, but I don't see anywhere obvious place back their to put them, and where can I find the wiring?

Hey, I can finally help!

The rear foglight is the left hand rear taillight.

The purpose is when it is foggy out to push the rear foglight switch and ONLY the left rear taillight lights up brighter, making you more visible in the fog.

They are not "reverse lights" as what I originally thought also, but rather a brighter light on the rear of the vehicle.

Stand behind the vehicle with someone else pushing the switch and you will see what happens.

Pretty cool now that one knows what it is.

Regarding your front foglights, I do believe you need to take it to a dealer to have them activate the switch. Or at least something to those regards. It does not work until something else is done to it, even though you have the bulbs in there.

55 watt is recommended as factory/standard.
