Service B

My ML320 requires 'service B', does that have to be performed by the delaership or could a local Midas perform it.

Nothing HAS to be performed by the dealer, especially if out of warranty.

Both are glorified oil changes with a check here and inspection there.

Both the A and B service do include oil changes. However there are a number if items to be inspected during these services. To maintain the reliability of the car they should be looked at with corrections as necessary. I do not think I would trust a Midas or such to do this. My take is a dealer who knows what to look for or if you cannot afford that a good independent that works on lots of MB's would be the place to go.

If you do take your car to a side shop to do the service, be sure to change the dust filter for the HVAC. A lot of people forget about this and it will eventually burn up your blower motor because it will get clogged and not allow airflow which helps cool the blower motor. Plus your air coming out the vents will start to smell.
