New noise from the ML

I have this new noise coming from my car, it last for a while. When the car is running(louder when it is cold) I get a high pitched wine from the engine. The closest thing I could compare it to is a very exagerated supercharger whine. It raises itself and lowers itself with the RPMs. When I turn it makes it louder, but it is primarily based on RPMs.
Any ideas?

Dave yes I did... Its great news and Ill make a posting soon for a date suggestions or requests...
Greg, it does it all the time. Im hoping its a stupid little easy to replace belt... my fear is that its a big ugly pump of some kind that is going to be very Labor intensive and costly to replace

Hey do you remember that recall they did on the power steering system etc. MB said they had to do it because you could lose pressure/fluid and lose steering control.

Recall info.
The recall was to address the inadequate power steering hose clamp design. This condition was most noted in cold climates where the rubber hose connection at the radiator / oil cooler would harden in the cold and when drivers would turn the wheel building pressure on the downstream side of the pump, the pressure would blow the hose off the metal nipple. At first they would just add a second clamp but later they would replace the hose all together. This may be a leak point for your vehicle but the recall was for catastrophic failure where the sudden loss of all power steering fluid at speed could pose a safety issue.
