Hey guys,
Recently, I have notice a clicking sound on the front part of the car, sounds like it's around the steering column. ( not sure) It clicks when I slow to a stop and turn. I have taken it to a dealer and they can't seem to find it, *******s.
So, I figured to post it up and find out if it's a normal ML problem.
Driving wise have no problems. It runs perfect.
Only clicks when I slow down to a stop sign or turning when doing a u trun or so. I think there something cracked on the frame or something. But nothing has affect the driving of this
Please let me know if anyone has similar problem and what to do.
Thanks
Andaya.

I had the same problem
After taking it to the dealer 3 times, they finally figured out that my steering mechanism was defective and they changed the whole thing including power steering mechanism. They changed it under warranty and I never heard a click after that. I have a 2000 ml430

I hope this will be it, I did take it to the dealer and they couldn't find it. I will have to print this and hand it to them and see if my ML 430 has the same thing.

Clicking Sound
I have three new sounds from what I think are three different sources. The first sound comes from the center console area and almost sounds/clicks when accellerating or stopping. The second sound seems to come from the undercarriage and occurs when braking and is more of a crackling sound. The third sound is similar to the second, seems to come from the undercarriage area and is not always related to braking - but seems like a slightly different sound.
I wonder if the first sound could be coming from some sensor - almost seems like the sound of a pendulum swinging and clicking when it goes past a certain point.
I have a '00 ML430 with 47K miles, so I want to get it fixed quick
Thanks for any advice/help

i have this too
Mine does have a clicking on the passanger side mostly, can only hear it with window down. The clicking happens when I am stopping or when I accelerate. The tech said it was the torsion bars that had to be lubricated. Which he did and the clicking was gone for about a month, now with all this rain its started again. I am going to the dealer tomorrow and have it checked out. I'll post later to let you know what happened.

oh cool...
Can you tell me where the torsion bar is located so I can do it myself?
Spray a little of WD40 would do it.
Let me know, or take a digital pict.
Thanks

they used some sort of white grease...
Took it to the dealer today, and obviously did not make the clicking noise
. So we laugh it off and I will eventually return to have it fixed.
The link suggest using silicon spray, which might help too. In my case they removed the torsion bars and greased all over the place (where the diagram says to spray, and also inside the squarish sleeve). I guess this is not a permanent fix and eventually needs relubrication. If I had only known this $200 earlier...I am hoping they won't charge me the second time.

$200 ??? geeeeze
It's just lubricate!! Unless they told you, ummm, that they took the whole thing off. Save your $200 and buy a $1.50 bottle of wd40 and save money!

they said they took them off, and I guess they did since after that there was one big clunk (like they settled in place) once I left the dealer (no clunk since so I didn't bother mentioning it). I have plenty of WD40 home so I know what to do now. Nonetheless I will take it back as soon as I hear some more clicking, and ask to be covered under their previous work...
thanks

I sprayed like the whole bottle and the clicking is still there. I wonder if I really have to take it to the dealer and mentioned it to them.
I'll see this weekend, if I can get underneath the car and spray all the way back.
Wish me luck.

try using a thicker lubricant (grease)
...try using a thicker lubricant (grease). On another note the clicking is back today
, but I can't make it to the dealer today, so I will just have to wait for another dry sunny day for it to start again.
The dealer said it was not a bid deal when they first looked at it so I feel it is more an annoyance than a problem
.
I hope you don't have to pay like I did....good luck.
