Shock Absorber Opinions

Has anyone replaced their shocks with Bilsteins or ML55 AMGs and could you give some feedback on the quality of the highyway ride and handling control?

Well since I have a 55, I dont know how the ride on the 320/430/350/500 is, but the 55 is a pretty stiff ride, nearly as stiff as my land rover. While the handling is pretty good, fairly good in the corners, its 4wd so a bit of understeer there.. but otherwise pretty good, not too much body roll.

Shock replacement

I put Bilsteins up front several months ago and really didn't notice a heck of a lot of difference. I bought the full set, but the rears are no where near as easy to install as the fronts. The rears involve the springs, and the Bilsteins do not come with a spring assembly out of the box, just some odd shaped brackets. It appears you have to yank the OEM stuff out and make a new assembly out of what Bilstein gives you and the OEM srpings. I have not heard anyone here mention that they have successfully completed this mod.

ml500 with ml55 suspension

I have succesfully upgraded my 2002 ml500 to ml55 shocks and h&r sway bars. I tow a race car with the ML and the shocks needed replacement so I went with the ml55 stuff. I now have ml55 amg 18" wheels ml55 shocks and h&r sway bars. The car drives incredible .... and tows even better. I think it worked out to be a fantastic upgrade ... was really impressed.

Are these parts a one-for-one replacement without mods?
