Cutting Trailer Hitch Cover

Hello-

I went ahead and got the U-Haul trailer hitch put on.
The Dealer quoted me $800 for hitch and install!! (no thanks)
Now I need to cut/trim a hole in the hitch cover and slide it over
the hitch.

Who has done this before?
Is there a template out there?
My fear it that I am going to break out the Dremel and it will look bad!
I have a 2002 ml320, looking for advice.

Thanks!

-PL

Factory Cover

Here in New Zealand our MLs come with a detachable trailer towbar (hitch) and factory cover colour coded with cut outs as standard. I guess there must be a factory part available. The part number on mine is A163 880 1405.

Regards

Make a template out of cardboard, then cut you hitch cover with a razor knife to match. Worked great for me.

Same here although I used a template that someone posted to a different forum a long time ago. Err on the side of caution when cutting, you can always make it bigger. I also made a cut on the bottom so I could fit it on whilst keeping the hole for the hitch smaller. Looks great and it's been on there now for 7+ years.

Perhaps Wolfgang, who has been around as long as I have can locate a template but really it is not that hard.
