Best Tires for the ML320?

All this talk about performance tires for sports cars, but i don't hear much about tires for SUV's. My stock tires has raked up about 58,000 miles (lol, i know that's alot) and it's about time that i change them. What tires are the best? I'm leaning more towards handling and stickyness of the tire then the comfort level. Thanks guys.

I have heard the Pirerrli Scorpion was a good replacement in that it was a better handling tire than the Grand Trek, but this was for an ML430, which has a weird tire size. You may have more choices with the 320.

my stock tires

my stock tires are General Tires: Grabber ST, which are different from you "Grand Trek", but i'll give the Perrellis Scorpions a look. Any idea which other brands are good? like bridgestone, Michelin, general tires?

Gold,
Just go to tirerack.com and enter the year and model of the vehicle. It will show all the tires that are available for it (all the tires they carry anyway).
I just picked up a 430 with Scorpians on it. They stick well but likely will not do well in the snow. Plus they wear relatively fast.
Another thing on the tire rack is that you can read reviews from customers that bought the tires. It is quite enlightening. You can even screeen the reviews for folks who have the same vehicle.
Good luck!
BTW, I am also looking for a replacement tire that will do good in all conditions - anyone have any advice (275/55-17)?

we just got new tires for our ML320 and after tons of research i chose the michelin cross terrain SUV tires. They ride tons better then the crappy grabbers and ARE MUCH QUIETER. The ride is so quiet now, all i can hear is the wind and engine (which is well muted). I love it! I give them a 10 out of 10.

Thanks Alboston

Yeah, I narrowed it down to three choices. The Michelin SUV CrossTerrains are among them. The other two are General Tires Ameritrac, and the Goodyear Fortura HL's.

AlBoston, regarding the Michelin Cross-Terrain SUV tires, what do you think about the handling of the tires besides the comfort?

While we are on the subject, I just picked up a set of factory 320 wheels for winter use on my 430.
What is a good winter tire?
I plan to run the Scorpian Zeros in the other seasons. Please note folks that there are at least two Scorpian tires offered. the Scorpian Zero is worthless in the snow (according to reviews from tirerack.com) and the Scorpian S/T is great in the snow.
TIA,

The tire may suck but the ML kicks **** in the snow. I couldn't believe how down right wreckless I could be and the car never steps out of line. ESP DOES NOT APPLY TO BRAKING IN SNOW! I was screwing around on some back roads, no small furry animals were harmed in the makings of this post.

I have Michelin Cross Terain as well and am very happy with them. The price you were quoted is very attractive.

The Michelin have been on my 320 for almost a year now. I would say the grip is comparable if not better than the OEM's and wear seems to be holding up much better. As for snow performance, this last winter wasn't much of a test.

Thanks 99ML, I drive a Quattro and I always put snow tires on it in the winter. Even a good awd vehicle can slide sideways!
My wife will be driving the ML with the kids so I want it to be surefooted in all conditions. I think Nokians will be a bit pricey so I want to gind an affordable SUV snow/mud tire.

Talking Michelin Cross Terrain

Replaced Grandtrek tires which lasted 50k miles on my 99 ML 320 with the Cross Terrrains which were purchased at Costco for about $550 mount, balanced and lifetime flat repair. Tires are great: quiet, work in snow, rain and dry would get them again. They have 12k miles of wear on them and look new and handle like new. Really good tires.

What's wrong with the original tires? Got 4 from tireracks for $50/each + $10/each for mounting/balancing at Cosco. Can't beat that!

Andaya-

That's a great color. I think the full size spaer carrier would look cool with your brush guards and side rails. Too bad we can't get em ijn the US. DOT sayas they are dangerous, and MB won't do the install.

You can order the parts, however.
