I don't know if i'm late.... But I just got my recall letter in the mail yesterday. It says to bring the truck in for them to inspect for cracks. If they find cracks they will change the Cats. for free. The letter also says they will refund your money if already payed to have them replaced.

I got that letter a few weeks ago, too. I haven't taken mine in specifically for that, but I'll let my SA know next time I'm in for anything that I'd like to have them take a peek. I got up under there and looked at all of the welds and mine look really good, so hopefully I'm OK. I assume from the way that the letter is worded that even if they find it some time later it'll still be covered. Of course my truck is five years old and has 64000 miles on it, and the exhaust system looks pretty damn good under there. It doesn't seem that any part of it is going to be a problem any time soon.

Don't count on it about 2 years ago my left side crack developed a crack. at the time the dealer wanted $2500 to fix it. I said no thanks and had my trusted mechanic Tig weld it shut, and I haven't looked back since. But if it cracks again I will take it in and have them fix it for free.

I just had mine done today. Got there at 8:30 and they handed me the keys at 2:30. Tired of all that waiting, but it was free, now I have new cats, and the ML is as quiet as my Lexus. Speaking of my Lexus, I am so spoiled at the Lexus dealership - leather chairs, plasma tv, drinks and food, loaner car if I just want to run do some shopping at the spur of the moment with no questions asked. At the MB dealer I sit out in the showroom in some extra office type chairs and watch customers come in and out and watch the clock. No loaner car unless you schedule it weeks ahead of time and they decide to approve it. Free water from the fountain, otherwise they have a coke vending machine where you can buy $1.50 cokes. Can you tell I had a LONG day at the dealership?

But at least my cats are new

My MB dealer has has Plasma TVs, free drinks, coffee, snacks ,fire place and easy chairs. They also have a section for the kids. .

I'm envious. The people are nice at the one here, but the overall experience is just blah. The dealership is old, and reminiscent of a visit to a 70's era Pontiac dealership. There are like 2 office chairs in the corner of the showroom where you sit hunkered down behind the new CLK so you even have to strain your neck to even see people coming in. They offer you nothing to make your wait pleasant and offer nothing in the way of loaners or even drop off and pick up service. I would have even taken being dropped off at the mall if I had I known it was going to take 6 hours. Not that it was outright bad, just really nothing but a chair and 2 Mercedes Benz merchandise catalog brochures to read for 6 hours or get up and go walk around the lot or nearby area. I am just spoiled like I have always been treated at the Lexus dealer. I did manage to walk about 6 miles in the neighboring area then had lunch nearby, so I guess the exercise was better for me that sitting in front of a TV.

My dealer said that my car is not on the list (when I was in for the harmonic balancer recall...), even though they are rattling a bit lately... 1999 ML320
