WOW congrats, thats quite a bit of driving... two questions for you: why was the transmission replaced at 95k (im at 95k and about out of the 100k warranty and my tranny is becoming kinda clunky with age, but its probably just wear and tear)

also did you ever replace the timing chains? I was thinking of doing it around 120k or so as a proactive replacement. I know its nasty when a timing chain breaks and piles up in the guides... ick

Talking of the tranny...

I have been feeling some clunkiness since I crossed the 80K miles..My understanding is that a tranny fluid flush will most likely solve it...

I am planning on getting the tranny flushed at 100K miles...am currently at 90K...are there any side effects of this clunkiness? Is it something that I need to worry about right away, or can wait until next summer, when I hit the 100K miles...

Answer to lookaught

The transmission change at 95k was a while ago. I don't have a very precise recollection of what happened. I think it was not shifting gears properly. I was out of warranty, but a transmission change at 95k was unacceptable to me. So, I made a big fuss about it and after a lengthy negociation they paid for the part and I paid for the labor.

As regards the timing chains, they have not been changed. The car goes regularly to the dealership, so I imagine they would bring it up if there was a problem.

After the last airflow sensor change the car runs beautifully.

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
My GF has 187K on hers.
We're looking at getting another with lower mileage.
I'd consider having her keep it, but problem being she has no idea what maint. has been done and what hasn't. The tranny is slipping a little. Not sure if it's ever been replaced.
Maybe a full flush would help, but for 10-12 grand we can get one with 60-70K miles and sell hers for 4-5K.

The water pump seal went the other day.
I'm going to repair it for her.
Damn, there's at least 30 bolts to contend with in this job!
Wow, a lot different than other cars I've done.

268,000 miles and ran perfect until the tree won

We fully expected ours to go over 300,000 miles.
We had a 2000 ml320.
