You can burn CD's in 2 formats -- Audio and DATA
Data can only be played by MP3 Players and not Normal CD Players
I can install a CD Player that is not my issue
I want to install a MP3 Player which looks just like CD player and might fit in the slot meant for CD Player but when you hook it up your Console shows song being played etc.,
Thanks

Best bet is to sell your MCS on ebay use the money you wanted for an CD deck and the money from your MCS sale and CD player in the trunk, and go and buy a alpine of pioneer unit. They have nice ones for about $1k that will fit in the place the MCS did, they will let you watch dvd's they include Navigation/sat radio/ MP3 play back/ ipod integration and more depending on the model. A few members here have gone that route and I wish I did that in my 2002 ML since I spent over $700 just to get my satellite radio and ipod to work with the MCS.( Would of been 1/4 the price if I had my old none fiber 2000 ML)
NM I am guessing you have a 2001 ML by your name lol. Well you have a 50/50 chance that you have fiber optic MCS or the older copper wire MCS. Best indication is the screen color of the MCS if you have a light blue screen then most likley you have copper, if you have a dark blue then you have fiber. Or you can take out the MCS and below where the CD player plugs in on the fiber optic one you should see 2 black wires that join and plug into the MCS I think they might even have a sticker saying fiber optic.. I have seen some where they cables are orange.

My best advice after doing numerous things and messing around with the MCS is just to ebay the thing and get an after market unit. You end up spending so much money just to connect things to the MCS its cheaper to go after market and that will give you so many more options. I think a member here added a back up camera to his after market unit and you can do even more lol.
