De-badging the ML

Just wondering if anyone had debadged their ML.

I was polishing the ML430 emblems on the back hatch of my 99 ML430 and noticed the M and the 4 were loose. I figured the others were in the same shape (or close to it) so I removed them all with a thin piece of plastic and some 3M adhesive remover. I had every intention of re-installing and had thoroughly cleaned the surface when I decided I kinda' like the clean look.

Now I'm debating on removing the rear-hatch star also. Anyone else done this and, if so, could you please post a picture of the results ? Thanks !!

Don't remove the star. It has to prongs on it that correspond to 2 holes in the metal. So if you remove the star you will be left with 2 holes..

Debadging is good, makes waxing easier, and just think of all that undernourished paint under those letters and numbers....

..keep the star though, it's good PR.

I prefer the "cleaner" look too....The star will have to stay. It is attached similarly to the front emblem with three triangular prongs that fit into grommeted holes on the deck. Its amazing how much gunk accumulates under the emblem .

I used to take great pains to clean the emblems and the paint underneath, including using q-tips to remove residual wax, etc. After removing the star, the outline was still very apparent and it took a mild rubbing compound to remove. Looks great now and the ML430 will remain OFF !!

Thanks for the feedback ...........

Only time you could be accused of being a poser is if you replaced the emblems with something other than the ML320..such as ML430, ML55.....

Personally, I think it gives the rear hatch a 'cleaner' appearance and as JDM stated...lot easier to wax..

Looks good in my opinion, planning on doing this to our ML320 this weekend :-). It's tansanite blue so it should come up nice, today I also just got the chrome trunl lid cover / handle, will see if I get time to install that this weekend too.
