How critical is automatic transmission linkage bushing?

How critical is automatic transmission linkage bushing?
One of the items on my recent B Service (& 100K mile tune up) was worn out automatic transmission linkage bushing...
My SA told me, it was a non emergency repair and could be dealt with at some later time.
I quickly searched up google, and seems, the part is really cheap ($1.50 or so). Has anyone tried to replace this? How hard is a DIY on this?

Took me about 5 mins on my w126 ( can't be much harder on your car) Just jack up the car, disconnect the linkage. Take the clear rubber bushings off and put the new ones, and insert the linkage back in. It's like playing with legos. That easy. I'm 20 and i thought it was easy breazy !

I found one article on DIY for this..
Its for the w126 chassis, might be a a bit different for the w163
Seems like it requires getting underneath the car - I'll just leave for the mechanic, next time it goes in for any work
