Navigation Questions\options PLEASE HELP

I bought a Pioneer Avic D1 for my 2000 ML 320 and some installers claim that I need the Can-Bus adapeter in my car ans other installer say I dont need it. Al & Eds say that it will damage my car if I dont have the Can Bus thing and Best Buy installer claim that the D1 might not be as accurate but it cant damage my car. I have 3 options of installing this COMPLICATED nav system. Can anyoine give me any info feedbackor comments on the options I have below. Thanks again

Option 1
Install my Avic D1 into my car, have them slightly modify the dash and spend another 200 bucks for the Can-Bus thing

Option 2.
Keep my existing MCS Command head unit and buy the Nav-Tv or similar piece and install a DVD nav sytem like the Avic 90,88 or similar. Has anyone used The Nav-TV interface and have any comments on it?

Option 3.
Keep my existing MCS command center and add the factory Mercedes navigation that was supposed to be installed. Ive heard the after market is alot better then the Mercedes Nav and this navigation would be out dated (compared to todays after market navigation) It would also be really expensive.

i've used avic (flip version) before and really like it. the map detail is far greater than OEM MB DVD. fits perfectly on ML (2DIN). extra features AVIC supports such as iPod integration, XM/NavTraffic. if i went OEM route, i had to purchase DVD drive, navi map and CD changer which would've cost me about $2000. i bought mine from eBay.
