Thumbs down USA vs AUSTRALIA - ML320 wiring

USA seems to be the place to obtain new and pre-owned parts.
Can someone tell me if the wiring is similar b/w Aussie and USA ML320s' (2000 model)?
In particular, I would like to replace my Audio 10 radio with a Monitor.

Any takers for advice?

Andrew.

As far as actual head unit wiring is concerned there are many enthusiast websites on "how to".

As far as anything else is concerned .... do not use any USA wiring in your AU ML. Stick with entertainment options only but use European version parts.

CD stacker and phone is similar for both.

GPS wiring is not the same. It is also year specific.

Fortunately, since these cars are manufactured in Germany, all wiring is fairly similar. If you replace the headunit you will need wiring harnesses to match the radio. It will be year specific, but the aftermarket wiring harnesses will match up to almost every radio.

Almost all MLs were made in Alabama, USA, apart from a small percentage from Graz, Austria. http://www.mbusi.com/pages/corporate_history.asp

If you want to upgrade your radio, go for a Comand headunit. Then you'll have satnav and you can connect a DVD player and a TV tuner if you want.

Oh brother ..... this really isn't anything close to what happens in Australia.

Phone kit wiring = 4 versions

GPS wiring = 5 versions

Headunit wiring 4 versions.

I dont know who comes up with these simplifications.

There are some helpful pinouts of the various radios in ML's on http://www.whnet.com/4x4/
If you search on the word pinout you will get several different pages, you may have either to compare them or take a voltmeter to your Audio 10 connector.
