Time for new tires

Looking into new tires and wondering which one is best of the 3. Right now I have the Stock Dunlop SP Sport 5000 and it has done fairly well here in Boston with the snow and rain.

So now is the question. Which one of these 3 tires do you think is the best of the bunch.

Bridgestone Dueler H/P
Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Symmetrical
Continental 4X4 Contact

Thanks for all the input.

Michelin cross terrain.. I dont know about snow but for wet and dry they are great. But I might be biased I am just a big Michelin fan so far in my opinion they make the best tires. But if the dunlops did fine for you then the Michelin cross terrain will blow you away.

Def the conti sport contacts 4x4 they last really long and wear extremely well. In the rain they hold grip pretty good also. I would say in the rain the dunlops are more solid feeling and hydroplan a lot less because of the tread design. But they are much more expensive the conti's. Overall performance the dunlop I think is the best tire but then it doesn't last as long as the conti. However, any snow I'd take them off immediately and put on some snow tires!

I would not recommend the Continental 4x4 Sports Contact, because I didn't like the poor performance in the wet and they were not much good even in the dry, they worked OK in mud and the little snow we have had and they lasted reasonably well, they were noisy at speed.

I would not recomment the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Symmetrical which the ML was delivered with, these were very good indeed in the wet and good in the dry, however, they were almost useless in mud and not good in snow, they lasted rather poorly, but this was partially due to poor tracking; they were quite quiet.

I now have Continental Cross Contact LX with which I am very satisfied indeed, excellent road holding in wet and dry, more solid sidewalls give excellent steering and cornering characteristics, they seem to be wearing well, I have not yet tried them on mud and snow but am hopeful they will be good. I intend to buy these tyres again, but hopefully not for a good long while.

I'm on my second set of Michelin Cross Terrains and they are awesome in the snow. I've been through blizzards in those things. They never quit! Love them!

I love the performance of my Cross Terrains....70,000 miles and going strong. Great wet and dry, snow and wearing beautifully.

I would consider TOYO 100%. I have replaced my Dunlop tyres with these and they are awesome. Besides being a very good tyre, it also has great looking threads. If I am correct, TOYO are recommended by AMG for ML.

Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza 275 55 R 17 fits on ML 350.Check out TIRE RACK.Read the Tire Performance Ratings.I have Dunlop Sport 5000 right now only 24000 miles on it ,pretty bad in snow.It was bad when it was new. That's why I would pay little bit more to get better tires.Ther is a different between H/L and H/P tires.

I had 2 sets of the Grabbers and I am on my 2nd set of Cross Terrains. The Grabbers aren't bad for a cheap tire but the wear is poor and the tire is no match for the Michelin.

Looking up tires at Discount Tire for a 99 ML430, I came across Hankook Ventus ST RHO6. Anyone have experience with these? Everyone here seems to like the Mich. Cross Terrain. Although there is no price tag on safety, I would rather not spend more if there is a comparable tire at a lower cost (~$80 difference per tire).

If going with the Cross Terrain, I may try to get a deal with NTB since I also need to replace all 4 tires on another car; some NTB will price match online retailers. Currently, the NTB website price is less than Tirerack.

Thanks!

Hello guys....
I ve been doing my homework looking for best deal around to replace my tire in 2000 ML430...I believed each tire have their own character...but if you like to save money with very awesome material then I would recomend you with Mich Cross Terrain I knw they are expensive but they would last you untill you bored and feel like to get rid of it...u could save labor and time...perhaps a lifetime alligment would be good as well...
The key is you keep all the original setting and let those tire wear out evenly then u ll be surprise how long this tire gonna last u....
I have Mich now and have using it for over 60K so I gotta wait till the last treat come out and my new tire is ready to install.....
BTW Discount Tire might have a better deal for Mich...i believed $202/EA and you could get $50 off of u re purchased...Good luck..

Yoko ADVAN-STs are way sticky on the track, offroad and on the street but wear quickly. I'm going back to Pirelli Scorps very soon. These two are the ONLY Z rated tires in 305/45/20 anyway.

Had GG(general grabber) tires on the ML for first 120k+ miles...then changed over to Michelin Cross Terrain (bought from National Tire & Battery) because the MB dealer was ripping me off on the GG's and Dunlops...by far the best choice ive made in a long time for that car...the ride is much better as is the handling in all types of weather

Had NTB put them on over the weekend. Much smoother and quieter ride than the OEM Grandteks! Actually, because the road noise is reduced, I can now hear a slight high pitched grinding noise from the recently replaced rear brake pads. Thanks for the great advice. As soon as I take care of the brakes, I'm ready for a little snow!

Glad I could help, the tires are GREAT in the snow trust me ...I drove my ML through 12-15inches of snow covered roads last winter (before the snow plows came) just for fun and the tires didnt get stuck or lose control unless I intentionally floored it
