99 ML430 issues...what are they?
My 99 ML430 is about to go in for a "B" service. The end of the factory warranty is in sight and I want them to go through the truck and fix anything that might be wrong. (I just bought it as a lease return one month ago.)
It has 47k miles.
Here is my list of things for them to check:
1) The rear split bench won't latch down when I fold it down for carrying cargo.
2) It feels like the brakes require a bit too much pressure at a stop to keep the truck from moving.
3) The window actuator buttons for the rear passengers are loose and seem like they will pop down into the console if pressed hard.
What else should I be aware of that historically needs fixing? What should I tell them to check?
I love this car so far...
Thanks in advance,
dave

Not for me...
I have a 99 ML430 with 69K so far it's been maintenance stuff, no major fixing. I had it check out with my mechanic and had him do 120 point check and he came out with no problems..wheeew.
If you take car of it, it’ll take care of you. I also love my car!

I am not sure about ML420, but here is my (long) list of problems we had with our ML320 : http://www.24x7.com.au/ml320/

Pawel-
It is unfortunate that you clearly have had problems with your car.
I read with interest your paper on the ML320's brake pads. I found it a bit incredible.
I offer this constructive criticism.
1) Nobody cares if you are an engineer, a lawyer, or a physician. It is irrelevant. It hurts your credibility when you start out by saying- in effect, 'I am a really smart guy who knows braking systems better that the engineers who get paid to design them.'
2) All of the mathematical formulas in the world don't change the fact that you are comparing the brakes on a sports car (Z3) to an SUV. My M3 has bigger rotors and pads than a Chevy Suburban. Irrelevant.
3) Brake pads on Toyotas lasting "150,000 miles..." ? That is simply not true.
How often are your brake pads needing to be replaced?
Respectfully,
Dave
