overhead trip computer light

I am waiting for mine to fail, or someone to give me a failed one, and I will try to fit an LED in place of the bulb; I have done this on other equipment (not MB) and I have always been happy with the result.
It is not a risky thing to attempt as the old trip computer is otherwise worthless.

Can you elaborate a bit?
I thought halogen bulbs work on resistence...LEDs offer very little resistence compared to halogen bulbs, so just doing a simple replace could fry the circuit, right?
What do you do? Put a resistor in series or something?

That happened to me last year. There is no bulb to service so I replaced the whole unit. I still have my old one with the burned out light. Computer still works though. I'm sure if you know what your doing you could fix it.

Thanks Guys.
I'll probably leave it as it is until "marcelc" carry out his experiment.
Who care about the fuel economy when it's dark?
Luda.

You select the resistor for the normal current specified for the LED, 20mA is common for the older types, some of the newer, very bright ones take 70mA or more.
