How to reset your FSS..

Last night I figure out how to reset our FSS (aka Service Light). I too read the manual that came with our car and surf the internet trying to find ways to reset the light. I came very close in purchasing those Ebay reset tools because as of 29k miles I was getting tired seeing it blink for like 15 seconds.

The owner's manual state you have to turn two clicks and then follow the steps, which most of us know doesn't work. You should follow the owner's manual steps but the trick I found is to turn your ignition until all your gauge lights up or the last click before your car start. But you don't want to start the car or you would have to start over.

Follow this step and 99% it will work.

1. Get in your car and close the door. Make sure that all doors are close before you move to the next steps.

2. Put your keys and turn your ignition until all the gauge lights up. DO NOT START THE CAR.

3. Press the odometer TWICE within 3 seconds. NOT the clock button

4. Turn your keys back to the off positon and remove your keys from the ignition. Do this within 3 seconds

5. Put your keys back in the ignition then PRESS AND HOLD down the odometer and then turn until the gauge lights up. AGAIN DO NOT START THE CAR

6. Wait about 3 seconds and you'll hear a blimp and then it will show 10k.

YOUR DONE... Hope that helps someone

I've been resetting the FSS on my ML following the directions in the owner's manual for a few times now, and each time I reset the FSS, it went 100% successful the first try so I guess I get good at doing it.

However, when I help my uncle to reset the FSS in his ML (same model year), I usually have to do it 4-5 times before it'd reset. Go figure.

There must be a glitch in his on-board computer.

This is what worked for me.
