'02 ML320 Fiber Optic Problem

Anyone know of a less expensive way to replace the fiber optic in my ML320?

It appears as though there is a kink or split in the cable and the local dealer is quoting $150 for the part, but $2,800 labor (28 hours @ $98/hr). The MCO (no NAV or Phone installed) works, but there is no sound to the speakers and the MCO says that there is no CD Changer installed, though it is. I might consider a new head unit, but my local car stereo installer says that he would have to replace and re-wire the speakers as they're BOSE and not compatible, thus having to re-wire everything (probably about $1,500 - $2,000 for a Double Din unit with a 6" LCD).

Any help, advice or thoughts would be appreciated. I'm in OH if someone knows of a shop that coul help out.

If it says no CD changer you might need a recoding throuygh the dealer. If not they can ran the electrical test.
REplacing optical is not needed.
Go the the dealer.

Damage to the fibre optic cables is rare unless someone has had their fingers in there or the ML was involved is an accident of some substance.

Wreck

Thanks for the info and quick repsonse.

FYI - There was a wreck on the rear passenger side (near the changer) @ 10K miles (44K now) - though damage was under $2,000. I took another look and the fibre optic port on the changer has no cable going to it and the cable itself is nowhere to be seen.
