How easy would it be to install a Nav screen on a...

...'98 ML320 (I think I am one of the lucky few who has almost NO problems with this year ML) It does not have the antenna on the back, it currently has the regular old head unit and a 6cd changer in the back. SO how easy would it be to install one in my car and upto how much many will I be spending?

We sell and install Pioneer AVIC D2s in MLs for around $1500 and AVIC Z1's (the tops in Nav (20gigs of map data) for around $2500. You can find deals on refurb D1s for around $800. Install takes us about an hour and a half and an experienced DIY can do it in an afternoon if they are patient.

Best thing I've done to my '55 was replace that tiny 4.5" screen with a 7" touch screen Nav unit AND I kept my BOSE system w/o ANY major ordeal.

Looks nice.. I also recommend going after market. You get more for less. You can get sat radio, mp3 player, better navigation system, back up camera, dvd player. For just about the same price or even less than buying the OEM nav which is junk compared to after market units.

Add another $400 for the camera to the prices I quoted above for the Z1. I have also added: XM+Traffic, SIRIUS, IPOD control, and Bluetooth handsfree(which works with the Voice Nav system). Multiple six disk DVD changers can be added as well. I still have the stock BOSE sub / amp connected in addition to dual 15" BMFs running off a Directed 2200w 5 Ch amp with Crossfire Components in front and rear doors. 4 boxes of Dynamat to silence any rattles and I can still pop the gas door open about 1.5" with the bass. And bigger amps are on the way...

It's made by Alpine/harman for DaimlerChrysler and should be around $2000.

Here's a writeup about the recent intro in NYC:

If you're looking at the avic z1 compare it to the Alpine version. I know where you can get both, but you may like one over the other. And yes, it will fit.

Z1

Installed, generally 2100-2300, depending on car and accessories. Let me see if I can find some pics.
