stiff accelerator pedal
so far only 1 prob with my ML...the gas pedal is extremely stiff. I have to press really hard to get it going. Compared to my CLK the ML gas pedal is horrible. I've read on other forums that people have been stretching a spring and lubing up all the moving throtle parts. I made an appointment with my dealer in 2 weeks. What a coincidence...my dealer calls me up today and asks if everything is OK? I tell him about my appointment for the gas pedal.....he says its a safty feature.....what???? I say....saftey feature or not I need it fixed. I kept my appointment....and I"m not driving her home until the gas pedal feels normal!! I know from other forums I'm not the only one who hates this awful gas pedal feel!!! I will tell the mechanic to stretch whatever...or just replace the damn spring with one from a CLK!!!

when I say the pedal feels "stiff" what I mean is that it takes alot of foot pressure to get the pedal moving towards the floor. In the CLK I just touch the pedal and I"m off moving...but the ML I have to press harder than I normally should. Its like the pedal is resisting my efforts to move it.....whereas a normal pedal should just go with the flow. Am I making sense?? Anyways they better fix it. Not just a lube job either...they have to replace a spring or something.

Had a similar problem with my ML500. Accelerator was binding and stiff. Was difficult to start out smoothly or make a smooth speed change. Dealer replaced the cable and the stiffness and roughness went awway totally. This is the cable from the pedal mechanism to the black box on the engine side of the firewall.

our 2000 ML430 has had a stiff/clunky pedal since day one, and even after service B. thought it was normal. will ask for repair at next visit (hopefully not too soon).

Tried the stretch spring idea. It didn't fix this particular problem.
I took my '04 ML350 in to the MB dealer with the sticky throttle complaint and they claim they took apart the gas pedal assembly and lubricated the parts and the throttle cable. That did absolutely nothing to fix the annoying throttle linkage.
I will now demand they replace the cable.
