I don't believe it's drive by wire - that was new for some other MB model line. The SL was the first with brake-by-wire, but not sure which ones have the throttle-by-wire, but as far as I know, the ML does not.

Nope, that's wrong. It's drive-by-wire. All MB vehicles since the 1998 model year have been drive-by-wire.

It's throttle-by-wire. I think this is what causes the throttle delay people complain about...when the car is cold, the throttle computer gets in the way to reduce emissions.
My 1996 C220 is mechanical...when the cruise control accelerates the car, you can feel the gas pedal automatically depress.
