How do you change the CPS?
I've researched this site and discovered that many of you have the same problem that I have: does not start, then come back in 15-20 minutes and starts right up, once started it runs fine, no codes.
So the concensus seems to be the Crankshaft Position Sensor. I've checked with my dealer and they have a replacement for $142.80 and will pick it up today.
My question is: where is the sensor located on the engine and is it easy to replace on my own? i.e. no special tools? i would assume its on the balancer/damper or pulley. i hope its not on the flywheel side of the motor.
i'm a pretty good wrench turner as i've tinkered with cars since i was 10 so skill wise, i'd say i'm capable. i just want some idea as to where the sensor is and what its going to take before i break out the tools.
Thanks a bunch!

Bad news on the V8 it is, it's not tough to replace though. I need to add that I dunno what engine you have. On my 113 motor (C43 - V8) it's on the driver's-side bell housing (top side of the motor). The bell housing is the flywheel housing in case that makes no sense to you. You will need a torx or allen bit, although off-hand I cannot remember the size. I remember using a 1/4" ratchet along with a couple extensions - I hope you have small hands, it helps.
I replaced mine pre-emptively since I was aware of the what happens if it fails.

ok, i finally changed the CPS. no one told me that you needed to use The Force to replace it... hahaha... i couldn't even see the sensor. its behind the driver's side cylinder head and had to go completely by feel. anyway, i did it and so far no problems. we'll wait a week before celebrating.
