Replacing "torsion bar bushings"
Hi
I have been advised to "replace torsion bar bushings" for about $350. How do you tell when bushings really need replacing? I will be going away for two months and will leave the car with my wife. Should I replace them immediately or is it something that can wait?

The bushings make a creaking noises when getting in and driving. $350 sounds kinda high. They are just the two cheap white plastic shoes, some grease and a couple hours labor. What's the labor rate?

Out Of Control!!
they are eurathane they shouldnt ever need replacing... they could use some lubrication, to do that I think you need to pull the screws out, lubricate and screw them back in? Truck MUST be on a lift when doing so

Old Post Resurrection... My torsion bars are maxed out and distance between center of the wheel to the bottom of the fender way under 51 cm, more like 48. So I was told I need to change the torsion bars. Which parts exactly do people change (besides the plastic bushings) to fix worn torsion bars. Or is it the complete assy? My truck's got close to 160K. Rear springs broken, but that's a simple issue. Thanks.

Just wanted to clarify this completely false information. The bearings need replacing about every 80k miles because they crack in half and are completely useless. Also, truck does NOT haev to be on a lift, raising the 2 front wheel with a jack and stands if fine. Driving with broken bearing won't really cause and damage, but you will have to put up with a clinking sound over every bump.
