Help, trans problems
Got a problem with the transmission the other day.
Started the vehicle in the morning, all OK. Shifted normally with no problems. Than after going through a check point, (at very low speed), the trans. blocked in "limp mode", only one gear working.
Shifted to N and back to D, with no improvement. Stopped the car, turned off the ignition, started again, car normal. Slow down to a crawl, the car go into "limp mode" again.
"Limped" into a local MB shop, and could smell that the trans. oil had overheated. They overhauled the "box", and I took it for a test this morning. Very smooth and nice. Paid, drove 5 km, same sh..t.
Back to the W.shop where they reset all faults, tested and all well for the 120 km drive home.
Park at the supermarket, get out after 15 min, same problem again!!!
Anybody with the same problem/symptoms?
It is a ML320 with 89000 on the clock, AND I changed the trans. oil 5000 km ago.
(The parts they changed was bad and needed to be done, however, very confused for the reason of going back to "limp mode").
Would like to know any suggestions before the w.shop pick up the car tomorrow so I can give them some advice/hint.

Luda,
My 2002 ML320 is having the same exact problem!!!

My wife described the same scenario....so I went to her ML at the mall...test drove it....no problem. When I left....she called and said its happening again....she limped home on the freeway.

This is LIMP MODE.
Can anyone help us? Besides going to the MB Dealer or cert. tech....how do we get out of LIMP MODE?
Let me know what you find out. Thanks in advance.
Pete

I took it back to the same shop, and they changed the "valve control unit". All OK after that. Been putting on it approx. 3000 miles since, no problems.
Total cost, US$ 800. Have no idea of what it will cost in the US.
Good luck, Per
