Hi I,m a newboy, so I am afraid I do not know if this topic has been aired before!. I've got the ABS/ETS/BAS lights on my wife's ML430. I have plumbed down to error code C1401(High Pressure Return Pump A73N1), and found the the pump on the hydraulic unit does not run . It has got power at the pins on the terminal block on the front of the unit with the ignition on. Next thing will be to take the solenoid actuator block off , but I do'nt expect that to be the problem. I imagine that the pump motor is burned out. Question is can I take the two screws out at the back and just pull off the pump motor without breaking the hydraulic fluid seals?? I am sure plenty of people know but I have tried Googling for info on dismantling the hydraulic unit without any success.
The W203 has a quite similar hydraulic unit (although I think the ECU is in with the solenoid actuator block on this): I wonder if the pump motor is interchangable with the ML unit? - secondhand ML spares are like hens teeth in South Africa
I bought the Mercedes WIS manual from
www.electronicmanuals.co.uk. - I expect everyone knows this brilliant resource for all the late mercs- but obviously Mercedes only want their mechanics to replace complete hydraulic units.
