ML400 - odd but apparently known problem
I'm driving a 2003 ML400 which I bought about 5 months ago. Suffice to say I've had a few teething problems, not least of which was a new transmission which set me back about €3000.
That aside, a new issue has surfaced. When pulling away from standstill I can hear a sound from somewhere near the front left wheel which can only be described as metal grinding on metal or something being twisted. Occasionally I get a similar noise when turning right. Mechanic has been over it along with a certified Mercedes 'expert' and can't figure out what's wrong. They said that it's a known problem specifically with the ML400 when they get to around 100,000km and that even Mercedes haven't been able to figure it out.
Can anyone tell me if they've experienced something similar and have any idea what it may be? I've searched on here and various other sites but haven't found anything relevant. Perhaps that's a failing of my searching skills.
That said, I am definitely having a great time with the vehicle. Having moved from a Jeep Cherokee to a Hyundai Galloper and now this, I'm loving it. Thanks in advance for any info.
