W163 Front Screen Vent

Hi,
I am a new member, and this is my first post. I've bought a 2004 W163 ML270 CDI - great car, but one annoying problem. There has been an intermittent musty smell, and I have done all of the things that are recommended (new filter, thorough cleaning, leaving windows open, using various air freshners + anti-bacterial stuff with vents set to recirc, ensure no water damage etc etc) - all to little avail. Now that winter is coming I have become aware that there is no air coming out of the demist vent to the front screen. Even with max power and heater set to demist, no air comes up to the screen. This has me thinking that the two problems could be linked. Is it easy to get to the vent control? Anyone else have ventilation problems? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I know this is an old thread, but just wanted to ask if you managed to locate the problem of the smell and get rid of it?

I've not had my ML for long and there is a smell that comes from inside it. I have it cleaned and valeted but after a few days the smell returns again.

Cheers
