Fog lights

Well I"ve made an appointment for next Mon to get hella fog lights (FF100) installed in my ML430. Does anyone here know if I can get them to wire the fog lights to the button on the dash thats for fog lights originally? I heard I have to go to the dealership and have them activate that button. The computer has to activate the button?? Is that correct?
Oh bye the way...I"m going to an aftermarket place to get them installed, after my dealership said they wouldn't do it.

My dealer not only activated the front fog light button and installed the fog light bulbs in the OEM headlight housing on my 99 ML430 , but also activated the green fog light indicator in the dash. Their computer is needed.
Didn't charge anything - but I'm good at schmoozing . Officially, they aren't allowed to activate it due to US fog light height rules. I promised not to snitch on them . :p

Question Fog light in the headlight Housing?

I have an 03 ML and the OEM fog light is integrate into the bumper. Is there still an fog light housing inside the headlight? Or is this only for the earlier ML that doesn't have the Bumper integrated Fog light? I wouldn't mind getting an extra set of Fog light in my Headlight housing for that extra sunshine. The ML's headlight just not bright enough.

Stiggs is talking about externally mounted fogs, like on the bull bar or somewhere else. It can be integrated into the OEM lighting system and I'm surprised the dealer won't do it. Aren't these the MB recommended fogs??? The aftermarket place should be able to do it.

I'm getting my Bull Bar install this weekend

Thanks, Darkmann. I'm getting my OEM Front protection bar install this weekend and after that I'm gonna get me a pair of MBUSA recommend PIAA 510 Driving light to mount on my BullBar. I need that extra shine for the safety because of the ****ty ML headlight.

The dealer will only activate the front fog light switch if you install external fog lights such as mounted on a bar. They will (usually )not activate the internal fogs in the '98-'01 headlight housing because they are at an illegal height per US regulations.

A day late

You probably already have your fogs, but MB North Haven activated the integrated fogs and the indicator on the dash with no charge on my Starmarked 99 ML430.
I had to sign a statement that I would only use them offroad.
Let me guess... Carriage House wouldn't do it for you?

intergrated fog can not be seen outside, its a pair of H-3 bulb that you have to installed inside the pre 02 headlights housing, then if you have an '03 the only extra fog lights you can add is to install it at the bull bar.http://www.pbase.com/pikniss/2000_ml_320 I have a fog light inside but you can not seeit unless its fires up.

Thanks for all the info. I will post pics once they are finished.
Well I had them installed by an aftermarket company on Mon. But in order to use the switch on the dash (which has the green light) I need my dealership to activate it. Dealer said they need to book at least an hour for this procedure....I will ***** like hell if it takes longer than 15 minutes!!! So they will be activating them today. (yes I have fog lights atatched to my truck but they don't turn on) Once they are activated I then have to go back to the aftermarket company and make sure they work. This was a bigger pain in the butt than I thought. I hope its worth it.

Today will be the true test of my dealership....if they do this correctly and cheaply then I will stick with them.

Internal fog lights are not illegal in the US because of any height restriction, as other have stated. Each individual state has its own laws regulating fog light height. If you live in a state that allows them to be above a certain height your dealer will gladly activate them. At least that was Mercedes position in 1999.
