Changing Filters to get rid of smoke smell

Hi I have a 02 ML500 the previous owner was a heavy smoker and I am trying to get rid of the smell.
Does changing Cabin filters work?
If so which ones?
Does the ML have charcoal filters?

Tks for any help

Awaiting a new arrival...
Yes, change the cabin filter, and easy 5 minute job and it will help airflow immensely. You can get a standard version or charcoal-activated version.

Going forward, change it every year, it makes a big difference in interior smell. However, smoke penetrates everything, so it may be a harder challenge to get it out of the seats and plastics. I would suggest a wipe-down and scrubbing with a non-abrasive cleaner and significant use of Febreeze.

I have to agree with slcvr6, also when cleaning, pay close attention to the headliner.
When I took delivery of my ML, it also had that smoker's odor and I couldn't get rid of the smell for the longest time even with several cleanings. After did a thorough cleaning of the headliner as well as other fabrics in the interior, the smell went away. I hope this helps you...
