Importing an ML500 into Canada
Does anyone know what modifications need to be done to import an ML500 or ML55 AMG into Canada? I have read that the bumpers may need to be modified for Cdn spec but does anyone know for sure? Also, I've heard that MB Canada is not overly helpful and the dealerships will gouge me to do what mods need to be done. Any experiences? Thanks in advance.

You can go to www.riv.ca and get the details but the M class can be imported without difficulty or duties!

www.riv.ca only points buyers to the dealership for more information, it has no detail about any necessary modifications.

As you can see below taken from the RIV website that no modifications are required to import a SUV built prior to Sept 1 2007 and that includes Mercedes!

I've imported 3 cars and 1 motorcycle it's not a big deal as long as you know the vehicle is not on the inadmissible list!
I was importing before importing was cool!

2004 CLK500
I'm currently in the process on importing a 2004 CLK500 and the entire process is a bit of a pain but it's doable.
For my car, I've been quoted around $4500 for all modifications, taxes in. From what I know, the Bumpers, dash cluster, child teather seats, daytime running lights, and the rediculous $750 fee for no apparent reason is what the charge is for. My car does have daytime running lights so it's just a programming thing. I've talked to the dealership about that.
Apparently my car needs the same modifications as a C-Class and I have a friends invoice, so I'm basing my costs on that. My car goes in on Thursday.
The price is a big detour for a lot of people but the savings in the end, it's still cheaper then buying in Canada.
