2002 ml320 stuck throttle

luckily it happened to me,and not my mother.

i went to drop off my vehicle at the dealership (nissan pathfinder) and my mother followed me so i could get a ride home.

i decided to drive instead since it is raining and she doesn't like to drive in the rain when it is dark.

anyway im driving, and the car ahead slows down so i released the gas pedal, and what do i feel? the car is accelerating, the pedal was stuck. it wasn't super accelerlation, it was just stuck where it was before, hovering around 2,250 rpm..

i told her (she was yapping on her cell phone) and then a minute later it happened again! i am sure this must have had happened to her before too (she doesn't pay attention like i do)..

anyway this is problem number 2 with the ml320... the first one is alarm going off at random...

its a 2002 ml320, about 5-6,000 miles on it..

anyone else have this? is it a common thing? I told my mom that its not safe to drive when that happens, i told her to take it to the dealership tommorw morning and have them either fix it or give her a loaner until they fix it.

is this un-reasonable? anyway, i don't know why she decided to get a ml320.. she had a rx300 that she traded in for it....

Smile first problem

I have been around for quite sometimes now and this the first time I've heard that the accelarator got stuck. Yes, if that's the case you have to take it the shop and have it fix.

second problem, yes...setting off alarm for no reason is a known problem on 2002 model, have the dealer diagnose the problem.

Never heard of the accelerator problem as such. Heard of binding non smooth accelerator pedals but not sticking. Alarm problem should be easy to check and repair. Its most likely the tow away sensor or the glass breakage sensor. Not a big deal. Curious, which dealer do you use in your area??

Yep, we have that as well. My parents got the car from R&S in Fort Washington.

She didn't take it in today, she probably forgot, I will remind her and hopefully she will tommorw.

From what I understand R&S is excellent. Same ownership as Brandywine where I go, they also own Wilmington Motor Car. Stay away from Keenan's service and also Cherry Hill's. Most likely the cable that goes from the pedal to the firewall box is bad and needs to be replaced. Not a big deal but have your mother be real carefull or have R&S take it in themselves on a flatbed.

My father bought 4 mercedes from Keenan previously. He used to get serviced there, but the past year or two he's taken it to R&S instead.

I don't think a flatbed is needed, I just asked her and she said "I tried all day to get it to stick but it wouldn't." I kindly explained that I didn't make it stick, that it did it by itself and it was totally random (just happened twice in a 10 min drive).

Anyway she's not really sure, I'll probably have to take it with her one day. I'll post back with the diagnosis and the fix.

Isn't it the cruise control should be disengage when you step on your brakes?, if thats the case ....the cruise control has to blame.

Nope

Nope, no cruise at all... Well at least I didn't hit the switch, and I don't recall seeing a light on in the dash either....

Its possible I could have hit it, although I am pretty darn sure I didn't hit it...

Found the problem

It was me

I drove it yesterday, and everytime I would go to hit the turn signal lever I would hit the cruse lever (down) which would turn it on and set it. I guess whenver I drive it I can't have my hand come from up top to put on the turn signal.

On another note, I never had this problem with my dad's E320.
