Question for ML owners

Hey people,

I'm in the market for a 2001 ML for my Dad, who lives in Senegal, and the roads are notoriously bad. He wanted me to find out if the ML has an auxiliary gear. Not sure what that is exactly, so maybe someone here can help me out?

He might be referring to a low gearing transfer case. The W163, of which the one you mention is an example, has such a low range transfer case. The all wheel drive functions in both standard and low range gearing.
