Question Overhead computer resets

I was wondering if anyone experienced their interior computer (displays date, mpg, etc.) reseting. I always leave it on the miles remaining and it resets itself to the date (wrong date at that).

Yes its a known problem. Computer needs to be changed out by the dealer for a new one.

Ours too?

What year is your ML?

I don't know if ours suffers from this as well, but I just checked my mother's and theres had 272 miles on it (they traveled over 300 miles today). Also the date was way off too.

I corrected the date. I went inside, told them the MPG, and that it showed 272 miles, but neither one of them said that they reset it.

While its possible they could have, they might not have since neither remember.

Either way no big deal, our ML has been trouble free!

I have a 98 ML320 ... I noticed this problem a few days ago. I normally leave it on "MPG remaining" instead of the date. When I corrected the date, it was way off (12/8/98). And what year are we? Oh well, it is not that big of a deal ... I was just curious if it was a symptom of something more serious ...

I was wrong

That was the Distance to Empty I was quoting, not distance driven. I don't know if there is even a distanc driven since lsat time reset on the ML trip computer.

Ours does not reset by itself.

MPG, Range

I get the same thing. I usually keep it on miles remaining too, until the gas light comes on and all it says is fuel, any fix??...but occasionally, when i switch to average MPG, it says 70, which is so wrong. This sound like something usual or something MB fixes?

Mine does it too. Thanks - my dealer (walnut creek, ca) played dumb when I brought it in last.

Sosh: Do you know how much is it going to cost to replace the overhead computer with a new one? or is it something that the dealer covers?

mark81295: Did the dealer take care of it for you?

ghitos73: No, they claimed it simply needed to be set. The date doesn't "change" until several days later. So without leaving the car there for say, a week, they were't able to troubleshoot it - I suppose. However, I'll ask when I bring it in the for the array of other plastic things that have broken on it...
