Spare Tire Removal

Spare Tire Removal
I've been trying to remove the spare tire, but haven't had any luck. I've popped out the cover, un-screwed the bolt, and un-did the hook. I had to force the wheel/carrier down, but I can't get the tire out. I've read the manual and it states to bring it down and then pull out. I've tried pulling outwards and pushing it down, but have had no luck. What should I do now? Am I suppose to be able to pull the wheel/carrier outwards?
TIA

Due to the polacement of the wheel carrier under the truck the guide rods are prone to rust and muck. Basically you need to pull the carrier down forcefully. You can try to be careful but careul may not get it to extend. I hope you can get it extended without a problem though. I had the same problem once I did extend it. I couldn't get it to slide back under the truck. Had to eventually buy a new assembly. It may be wise to ,as a precaution, extend the carrier and spray it with WD-40 after every winter. I think I'll start doing that myself.

I would suggest white lithium grease or plain wheel bearing grease. WD40, although good for initially freeing things up, will washout in a short period of time.
