04 ML500 sputing amber fluid.

Open the door and started it up, got out and started towards the house. Heard a funny noise comming from under the hood, spurting type sound. Went to the front of the ML and saw a small brown puddle forming, bit of brown foam on top. Shut it down and got my truck keys from the house. Went back to the ML and started it back up and the spurting stopped. Puddle ended up being about 8" dia. Fluid is amber clear and not water. Any ideas?
Also note, temp in the low teens this AM.

Sure it's not power steering fluid? Check the level. You'll have to remove the engine cover to get to the lid. These ML's are notorious for the power steering hose and clamp failing causing fluid to leak.

Power steering is dead. How far can I drive it before the pump gets damaged? The leak is too big just to top it off and drive it.

You will burn up the pump almost immediately if its out of fluid. Call roadside assistance, perhaps they can do a quick fix if its the hose or worst case arrange a tow to the dealer

you wont be able to drive that truck unless you are a body builder. The steering is super heavy without power assist. For a quick fix. get a new hose clamp and plug the hose back in and tighten it. You will need fill it with MB power steering fluid.

This is a recall issue. Call your MB dealer and ask them if your truck is under the recall. See if they will tow your car for you.

I must be a body builder... I drove it around for 4 days with no power steering... It was outrageously difficult...

To update everyone on scruffs issue... http://www.amgpower.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2383

Dealer turned him down for recall... he is having it repaired by a mechanic... Power steering was bone dry
