Advice needed - ML W163: removing the rear console Ashtray
Hello MBWorld gurus,
Can anyone suggest how I can remove the rear Ashtray in our 2001 ML?
Some time ago, little feet must have kicked the flap, the Ashtray opened and whatever regulator/key that governs the Ashtray hinge and holds it closed became dislodged and fell into the cavity behind the 'tray. The 'tray now sits open all the time, and has to be taped up (some undocumented MB design feature), if we want it closed.
Unless you say that I have to, I would rather not remove the whole interior to burrow down to the point where this piece of plastic is, but having tried to go in from above through the Armrest cubby holes I can't see how to get any further.
Extra merit and obsequious adoration will be given if any explanations can be furnished with pics or printable details.

its really hard to explain. its better off figuring out yourself?
i mean, there clips /bolts.
and mostly all clips
ill try to see what i can do ,,,
but here may be some brief explanation
MOST of the bolts are located, in the center arm rest area, open it up and you would fine some screws screwed on, on the bottom of the arm rest.
then carefully keep finding the screw and clips that may be holding it back.
you have to honestly examine and learn on your own, its hard to explain.
just keep finding clips and screws and it should become more loose..
Basically i think the whole center console must come out.
Ill check on my car tomorrow to see, and ill let you know.
i think there is a easier way to get to the console inside..
If you LOST something INSIDE THE CONSOLE and want to Get INTO it,
then i believe you just need to removie the ARMREST CARRIER,
that you would have to open the arm rest to the Large compartment and there shoudl be some screws on the very bottom of the compartment.
after it should be clips..
