DIY Hot air intake

Just to share my hot air intake with you guys.... it cost me $0 with my left over parts in the storage. It took me about 15 minutes to put these together last night and went for a boot on the highway, it feels smoother above 3000 rpm, but no butt dyno reports yet. However, it fixed the jerking motion at idle, probably the OEM air filter was clogged up before the hot air intake.
This intake will be modified soon with more piping next weekend

To the kids that wanna talk crap, I know the following, so keep it to yourself
- hot air intake
- oil on MAF
- no real world gain
- loss of torque

If im not wrong then you are using the stock pipe. All u do is just replace the OEM filter with your CONE filter ????? By the way, clean your engine dude lol

yeah, it's the same pipe from MAF to throttle....
I've reused a silicone tube from my STi front mount intercooler to connect from MAF to 3" pipe, then to the cone filter.

I'll post up pics of my intake later. I'm in the process of cutting out 3 cats.

if you cut out your cat, what are you gonna do with the O2 sensor and tuning? possibly the CEL may come on.
Have you thought about a cutout plus supersprint headers? I was looking into the cost of it.... I want that V8 rumble sound

I'm removing the post 02 sensor cats. No effect on CEL ETC. I'm trying to remove some backpressure to gain a little top end. I also have an old friend of mine at Speedtuning usa giving me a tune!

Nice !! don't forget to post under car pictures.

let us know how's the tuning gonna turn out, i'm a noob in mercedes tuning software. But i'm quite familiar with the Subaru EM and all the stages maps. I use to modify stage maps for my own Subaru. It would be interesting to see the advance timing and injector cycle map on the Mercedes tuning.

Well, we cant "log" a mercedes through the OBD2 port as you would on a subbie, we just have to throw it in.

so, is it more of a reflash or a chip to physically put them in ?
or replace the entire EM or piggy back?

I would like to learn more.... not that i can afford one... but it's interesting... !

Got the CF pipe a few years back on ebay. Basically it is a Honda intake kit. I cut the pipe to fit. It is harder to find these CF pipe now.

Its the same issue you get from using a front mount intercooler. When your moving its great, however when your idling its a nightmare.

I did some research and i still don't get what you mean by "throw it in" ?

I can do a highway run and log the data, modify cells on maps, reflash it back on the EM. But what does it mean by throw it in with a new map? a new chip? new piggy back? or a new MB genuine EM ?

The only way most tuners tune the mercedes system is by modifying a stock map. No one logs the automobile, no one does any of that. Its a very basic broad tune, a one size fits all.

Tongue and cheek for the intake he made. If the intake is in the bay it really is just sucking hot air. So the throttle may feel more responsive but, actual performance is lost from sucking in hot air= lost HP.

As for the one routed to the radiator I would question the size of the filter...seems a bit small

the pipe is OD 3" , coupling from MAF is a strected 3.25" from a STi front mount, filter is the AEM CAI from the subaru too.

by the way, i saw your name a lot on nasioc too !
