99 ML430 engine light on and P0700 DTC
Just happened the other day ( engine light on) and just pulled the DTC code.....P0700
After reading some posts, seems this could be all of 65 issues.
Does anyone have some idea where to start looking or some easy tests before bring to dealer?
Seems to run OK.......Do have a whine which up to now thought was power steering......now think maybe trans???
Appreciate any ideas

Always try disconnecting the battery, reset the car first. that atleast deals with some problems before paying a dollar.
I HAD THE SAME WHINE FOR MY POWER STEERING!!!!!!! think the powersteering light came on, but there was a leak.
anyways. benz try to charge me 1000cad, but i did the cheap way and bought a power steering seal by motormaster, and that solve my problem.,
no leaks, no noise, ect and only cost 10 dollars.
But there was a recall last month for power sterring hose which cause the problem also

Thanks.....I will take a closer look for a leak now...........I just wish there was an easy way to check the trans fluid level!
On your point of disconnecting the battery, is that the same as clearing the fault with a scanner......or does that do more with memory.
I had purchased a OBDII scanner for 37 off ebay.......At least I know where the problem is now ( not that it helps that much, as I am not going to fool with the trans........not enough space or tools) I was hoping it was a sensor somewhere.
Thanks Mike

Not too sure, but when i replace the battery myself, it took off some faults and the car worked well like new. no faults ect, but that really depends.
If your car is ACTUALLY DAMAGED, and the sensors ect are actually sensing a fault then yes that is somthign you really need to fix, but only good thing about Benzz is that it kinda has a limit before it damages the car.
the sensor would pop on and it says check engine ect..
sometimes for tranny for my c class it tells actually has a sensor that stops or limits from what im doing wrong, and prevents it from damaging.. .

Try the reset STi-JL suggested. But, be aware that P0700 is a 'transmission control system' malfunction, otherwise known as the conductor plate on the ML's. The conductor plate (why it's called that, I don't know) is located behind the valve body in your tranny. They're not cheap, but a much cheaper repair than the tranny replacement. Another possibility is the valve body. Make sure what it is before throwing money at it.
