Lowering driver seat on 01 ML 430?

Does a seat lowering kit or modification exist to lower the driver seat even further than the electric control will allow? As a tall driver (6'2") the seating feels too high.

Anyone?

Lowering the driver's seat

Dear TRF:

I will be interested in any relief that is suggested. I am 6'3" and look out through to top 2" of the windshield, with the rearview mirror blocking the view to the right. I'd love to lower the seat a few inches if possible.

I dont know if its possible especially on the driver seat. Im not exactly sure of 2000 and higher mls i think they are the same who knows they could've altered the speaker setup but the Bose option on 98 and 99 models means you get a little 8 inch (i think 8) subwoofer under your seat. The subwoofer is enclosed in a little metal box, i think the box is attached to the rug or floor somehow. Most people dont even know its there which really says a lot for how much bass it kicks out.

The only reason i thinkthey put it there is to "make up for / complement?" those CHEAP *** paper speakers that come with the Bose upgrade you paid $1,000 for.

I digress.... I think it is possible to remove the sub if you want if you dont care for the little extra bass it adds and who knows maybe the seat will automatically let you go lower, or a simple adjustment could fix it to go down lower. I dunno.

Worse comes to worse start looking around your area for people that fix up cars after accidents maybe go to your MB dealer and see who they get to do their accident/insurance work on wrecked interiors, i bet that person will be able to help. Express to them if you want that you intend on making this a no-cost do it yourself project, sometimes that start thinking of the quick buck and might stretch the truth as to what you need to do.

Hope i didnt ramble on too too much,
-steve

I'm taking my ML430 in to service next Tuesday. I'll ask around and report back any remedies.

Not sure if it is a solution, as you can not go back cheap, but you can always take some of the seat cushioning out. I had a Miata, which at 6'3", meant I could not put up the top-it was primarily a weekend/track car. I took it to a high-end upholstery shop and had them replace the cushioning with a thinner and denser material. Also had them mold it to my fanny, and put more material at the end of the cushion and lumbar region. Unbelieveably comfortable and resulted in an additional 1.5" of head room and about an inch of leg room. Cost about $100 total.
