Fuel Hose Removal
I have been fighting with the fuel filter on my 2001 ML-320. I have the upgraded one and it just hit the 60k miles. I also bought the special tool for removing the lines. Well, I have been trying to remove the 3 lines at the filter and there is not enough space for mi finger or for the tool. I Could not remove those lines from the filter. I ended up removing the back seat, then I removed the lines at the fuel tank. I finally was able to get the filter out just enough to remove those 2 lines that go from the filter to the pump. THERE IS THE OTHER LINE THAT GOES FROM THE FILTER TO THE ENGINE and I CANNOT REMOVE IT!!!
It has 2 tabs 180 degrees apart and it has 2 square holes 180 degrees apart. At first it seemed easy, I placed the special tool on the 2 holes and pressed hard to release the hose but it did not move at all, is there any other way to remove this lines???? It looks like it is one of those old original lines, seems like the person who performed the upgrade didn't change all the lines because I am lacking the loop line. my filter is the upgraded one though (p/n1634770501), so are the other 2 hoses that were actually pretty easy to remove. Can anyone help me with this?? please!!!!!

filter dilemma
I ended buying a hacksaw and cutting the filter by the line to have full access to the nipple of the filter and the fuel line, what a nightmare. I still couldn't take it off until my wife and her little tricks showed up and helped me...
I didn't understand the point in putting a picture of MC Hammer in my post, what a stupid thing to do, thanks for nothing MC Hammer.

lol glad to see its off... but in the future when removing a fuel filter... hacksawing is the wrong way to do it... Make sure you wash really good if you got fuel all over yourself, gas can cause some really NASTY rashes where it spills.
I was wondering what he meant by the hammer picture too... maybe try and use a hammer to knock the line loose? I have never removed a gas filter on an ML... just because of how pain in the *** it is. In the future if and when I change it... I will go to a dealer, they only quoted a couple hours of labor for the job...

It is true, a couple of hours should be enough for this job. The reason I had to do all this is simple. The re was no "loop line" and I know exactly why they incorporated this line to the whole configuration. This loop line has a plastic nipple and it is very easy to replace in case of failure of the engine feed line. That's the line I could not take off.
Don't worry about the hacksaw and the fuel spilled, I was wearing globes and I also had time to drain the filter before creating sparks with the hacksaw, it was pretty easy.
