DVD-based navigation system
Anyone out there experienced with the new DVD-based navigation system in the 2003 ML class? How does it compare with the MB's CD-ROM -based system and how does it stack up to the competition?

There are few if any changes from the CD to the DVD module besides using a single DVD rather than multiple CDs - mainly minor differences - others can help out in that area.
So it stacks up with the competition just as the CD-based system did.
In terms of features that the competition has that MB should include, I think Nissan/Infiniti's 1st-person display view is nice (it shows you from an 'inside car view' rather than a map view). Lexus' touchscreen is nice - IMO a lot better way of entering info than move the little joystick thingy around to the letters, etc. BMW has a whole nice set of info about the car that you can access from the system.
But as a whole the MB system is pretty nice.

There’s very little difference between the CD and DVD systems other than the obvious fact that the CD system requires 10 discs for North American coverage; the DVD only one (and that’s nice). A couple of the display screens of the DVD system are slightly changed from those on the older CD system.

There isn't much difference btw CD and DVD based NAV. The only thing (mentioned in previous post) is the number of disks.
A new DVD NAV deck costs about $1400 in the dealer, not including tax and, of course, installation. You can get a "take off" CD NAV for about $800 or less.
