Different Engine Noises at Different Times!

I don't know if it's just mine or not, but I recently got an ML320...a year after I got rid of my 2001, and it's strange. The engine sounds better when the fuel tank is near Reserve rather than when it's full. I really don't have much of a problem with it, but it's just awkward...is it me, or is that common with the 2002s? None of my other Benz' are in that situation.

What do you mean. Does the "growl" sound deeper or does it just sound smoother? How many miles and has it been in yet for service? The engine "sound quality" may change with many factors - temp, humiduty, throttle position, oil quality, etc. However, the amount of gas in it shouldn't affect the engine sound quality at all. Check your tire pressure. That's the only thing I can think of that'll change sound quality with mass. It could be the tires!! But then you should eliminate that by just idling.
