Question ml320 brakes help please

since my dealer quoted $320 for front pads replacement, i thought i would get a local shop to do it. can someone help me pick out the best parts for brake pads:

http://catalog.benzpartstore.com/?ma...1998&x=33&y=12

and also for rotors/discs?

http://catalog.benzpartstore.com/?ma...1998&x=33&y=12

there are several options for both.

i have never ordered before from http://catalog.benzpartstore.com

any other suggestions?

thanks!

If you have any mechanical inclination at all, the ML brake pads are extremely easy to replace. If you want to DIY, please reply while I look for a site that's got the instructions.

Alternatively, any GoodYear repair shop can do it for you - here on the E.Coast, I use GoodYear shops for stuff and I like their work.

As far as the best parts, a lot of people like the Poterfield pads for low dust. You will not need to replace the rotor if it's within tolerance, otherwise, stay with OEM rotors. Brembo makes some good pads also for the ML.

thanks for your comments
i think i might get a local garage to do it.
or yes, good year.

i have that posting from "pete" about installing pads.

for pad sets the benzpartstore had mintex, pagid, and textar, from in that order. nthere was another set going for $127 that didnt list brand. and all four sets only had one sensor each. i remember reading that each wheel needs a sensor.

as for rotors, there is brembo, zimmerman, and zimmerman cross-drilled.
just wondering what the cross-drilled is about

thanks again,
jj

That's fine. I was actually referring to Pete's write-up on the subject. Anyway, x-drilled rotors have holes from on face of the rotor, through the material to the other face. This is done for better heat dissipation. Sometimes, in between the holes are slots, again for fast heat dissipation, the worst enemy of braking resistance. There are a few reasons why you'd not want to use them, besides cost. They's noisier (all those slots and holes have to go past the pads) and potential for cracking. Go here: http://www.4wdworld.com.au/tipstricks/disc.htm
