ML 320 Check engine when gas is low
Hello neighbors,
I'm from the w203 section and I recently had a problem that I was unable to resolve.
My uncle has a 2001 ML320 and he always gets a Check Engine light when his gas tank is low. When he fills up after couple of miles of driving the Check Engine light goes away.
Some guy pulled the code and he (some guy) said it might be the Mass Air Flow sensor but he wasn't sure. So basically he didn't give my uncle a straight forward answer.
Now from what my uncle told me I am thinking this might be the Fuel Pump. Since when the fuel is low thats when the check engine light comes on.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Karo
P.S. Also do you guys know where the fuel pump is located. I only have this diagram (attachment) but I am suspecting it's in front of the left rear wheel?

Additional Info:
The fuel filter has not been changed. Will this be a reason why a Check Engine light is comming on during low fuel? The filter is soo dirty that the pump is struggling and throwing errors?
Thanks
