Anti-theft System Problem?

Greetings!

I have just purchased a 2001 ML430 that is awesome, like new. It has 74k miles, a beautiful platinum/silver color and great 17" wheels. That's the good; the bad is that the anti-theft alarm keeps going off about every 5 minutes!!! Ugh. No one is obviously trying to break in or even touch it. All the doors etc are closed and locked. I use the remote and the lights flash 3 times. But then about 5 minutes later the alarm goes off, horning blaring and lights flashing! Weird huh. It gets a little weirder (a word?): If I turn off the trip computer up by the sunroof, set it to off before I get out of the vehicle, then activate the alarm with the remote, it's fine! No alarm. Does anybody have a clue what's going on???

Thanks & God Bless!

Rick

Yeah, I've just bought a CDi 270 2001 66k silber automatic with exactly the same problem. The old owner said the dealer blocked the alarm. I have an appoitment this afternoon with another dealer to talk about it and try to turn it "on" again.
I will let you know.

Thanks!

Thanks to everybody so far that has ventured a reply! I don't think (but what do I know) that it's a problem with the anti-theft system (aka alarm system) simply because when I turn off the trip computer manually, the alarm system engages (evidenced by the flashing red light on the dash) and it does not go off every 5 minutes! Praise God! I did that yesterday evening and the alarm is still flashing this morning and did not go offf all night! I will be interested in hearing what the other dealers have to say! Please keep me posted!

Thanks & God Bless!

You are probably turning off the "tow away" alarm through the trip computer, which involves a tilt sensor which would trigger as the truck is dragged up onto a tow truck or the wheels are lifted. That would lead me to believe that the tilt sensor is the culprit. I am not 100% certain, but i would guess that it is a separate component of the alarm system. Good luck.

Anybody found the solution to this problem?

I have a 2001 ML430 with the same quirks.
