Trunk Light Switch, could someone tell me where it is please.
The exact location, and the colour of the wires that are attached.
As i can not get the light to function automaticaly when the trunk boot is opened.
It works manually on and off, but not automaticaly.
All help greatfully accepted

As I recall there is a switch in the vehicle that will turn the auto function on and off.You do not mention the year and model of the vehicle, need this info to get the location of the switch

The year of our ML is 2000 pre facelift we have had it now for 7 yrs.
If you could supply me with the relevent information it would be much appreciated,
The only switch that controls the interior lighting is the one in the over head center consol at the front, and that only opperates the lights in the rear seating area, not the trunk space.
This is why i'm stuck.

Do you have park assist?
I don't know if park assist is already available for 2000 models but mine is 2002 and the switch is right on the LED light assembly on the ceiling in the trunk that indicates how far you are from the object you're about to hit when backing up. It has 3 positions: on, auto, and off. Don't know if that helped any...
Good luck with that.

Cheers for that,
I know about the 3 position switch in the lamp,
But, the switch i'm refering to is the one that controls the automatic position on that lamp,
Thats somewhere in or around the trunk lid or frame

I've got an 02 ML320 with the same issue, and according to the dealer, the switch that controls the light is within the lock mechanism. They were able to get it working intermitently, but not consistantly. The suggested solution was to replace the lock mech. At over $300 with labor, I decided to live without the light going on by itself, as it works in all other functions.
