Great......

So I decided to pamper my daily driver a little bit today. I bought her some new rubber. 255/65R-16 Kumho Road Venture tires :: I had on the OEM General Grabber tires:: and wow, what a world of difference, but upon pulling off the front rims I noticed oil around my bilstin HD shocks that I had replaced about 5/6 months ago. I then take it over to a shop that I wrench at occasionally ::I know the mechanic there, and I borrow a lift whenever:: So I put the car up on the lift and check for any oil leaks, still none after 9 years and 82K. On the flip side, both of my Bilstin HD shocks are blown. 3K miles after install and both are blown.

Has anyone else had this problem, with bilstin hd shocks.

Mods, Eibach springs, lowered torsen bars, custom intake, ngk iridum plugs, ate rotors f+r and some good ole royal purple engine blood.

Wow.. I read another member had blown bilsteins too shortly after install. Im in the market for shocks. I was actually looking at bilsteins because everyone say they are great in the toyota truck forum.

What is yoru impression of bilstein in regards to ride quality?

There is also new KYB GR2 and Monroe shock availble for the front but Bilstein and OEM is the only one that has matched front and rear shocks for now. KYB GR2 will have rear shocks by the end of 2009.

The setup is perfect, its fun. The car really shines on high speed sweepers, matter of fact, I took a really tight left sweeper the other night and this guy in an altima coupe was trying to keep up. He almost spun trying to keep up with my fat sled. As for DD, the suspension is still soft and it absorbs bumps with ease and gives the suv a more car like driving experience.

Its not all roses either, my suv is lowered 2/ 2.5 inches which is great......but it has some drawbacks. You have to mind bigger bumps, speedbumps, road imperfections due to the fear of breaking front shock absorbers. I drove it once in the snow last winter and it was scary, make no mistake. SCARY.

PS, changing the rear springs and shocks is the biggest pain in the *** ever.

How did you get to the top mount bolts?

I just changed to bilstein fronts.. the hardest part is to get the fender liner back on..

Truck feels great.. firm but not harsh. feels like how a expensive SUV should. It sure feels like I need new rears too.
